IFS Therapy for OCD in Maryland

A COMPASSIONATE APPROACH TO OCD RECOVERY THROUGH SELF-LED ERP

When OCD takes over, it can feel exhausting to constantly question, check, analyze, or seek certainty. Through Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Self-Led ERP, we help you relate differently to the parts of you that feel afraid - so you can respond with greater confidence, calm, and self-trust.

OCD isn’t the problem. It’s trying to protect you.

Many people think of OCD as irrational thoughts or unwanted behaviors. IFS offers a different perspective.

Rather than viewing OCD as something that needs to be fought or eliminated, we explore the protective parts of you that have learned to use worry, checking, reassurance-seeking, analyzing, perfectionism, or mental rituals in an effort to keep you safe.

These parts are not broken. They’re often working incredibly hard to prevent fear, uncertainty, shame, vulnerability, or emotional pain.

When we approach OCD with curiosity and compassion instead of self-criticism, meaningful change becomes possible.

What is Self-Led ERP?

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is considered the gold standard treatment for OCD.

Traditional ERP often focuses on helping clients face feared situations while resisting compulsions.

Self-Led ERP integrates principles from Internal Family Systems. Instead of forcing yourself through exposures from a place of fear or self-criticism, you learn to approach anxiety from a grounded, compassionate, and connected state.

As protective parts begin to trust your leadership, you can face uncertainty with greater confidence and less struggle.

The goal isn’t to get rid of fear.

The goal is to help you develop a different relationship with fear.
